One of the best parts of any trip is exploring the food and drink scene. And while that may be looking a little different across the country these days, many of the restaurants around Columbia are making the most of a strange situation. There’s something for everyone to enjoy safely, no matter what your tastes, so before you set out on your hike or hit up all the unique boutiques, read this guide to begin planning out your Columbia culinary adventure.

Rise and Shine

Be sure to start the day off right with a delicious and filling breakfast. One of our favorite spots, Ernie’s, has been a Columbia institution since 1934. In fact, this restaurant — known for its custom omelets and specialty coffee — is the oldest full-service restaurant in the city. Other great picks include Main Squeeze, Range Free allergen-free café and Harold’s Doughnuts.

Fuel Up for Fun

Whether you’re looking for a quick pit stop between activities, a meal you can bring along for a picnic or a sit-down spot, you can find it in Columbia. Located in The District, Coley’s is a guest-first American bistro that has food and vibes suited “for any day of the week.” If you’re looking to grab and go, check out the “best buns in town” at Sub Shop. A staple since 1975, their oven-baked subs and fresh soups are perfect for a casual meal, wherever you want!

End the Day on a High Note

The day isn’t over until you check out the dinner, drinks and dessert scenes in Columbia. For some real Midwestern flavors, check out Flyover and their farm-to-table fare. We also recommend Günter Hans European Pub & Café — their patio is one of the best places in the city to enjoy some time with loved ones. To indulge your sweet tooth, don’t miss the strawberry black forest cake at U Knead Sweets and the freshly baked treats at Hot Box Cookies. And if you’re all about trying local favorites, some of our Columbia-made spirits, wines and brews can be found at Logboat Brewing Co., Les Bourgeois Vineyards, Bur Oak Brewing Company and DogMaster Distillery. Be sure to stop by for unique flavors and great atmospheres.

Stay Safe

Please note, all visitors and residents of Columbia are required to wear masks in public places (WEAR – ordinance enforced). We also encourage maintaining a six-foot distance between people not from the same household (WATCH), as well as frequent and thorough hand washing and sanitizing (WASH).
