The holiday season is upon us, and with jingle bells ringing and wreaths on doors also comes a wide variety of not-to-be-missed activities throughout November and December in Sikeston.

The most wonderful time of the year kicks off on Nov. 13 and 14, with Sikeston’s annual holiday downtown open house. At this joyous gathering, attendees can expect carriage rides through the town’s historic district, incredible deals from local merchants (some of which extend beyond the open house event), mouthwatering food, and of course, visits with Santa. Be sure to catch the stunning light show from the Board of Utilities office, and stop by the food trucks.

Black Friday’s great, but on November 28, swing by downtown again to celebrate Small Business Saturday. Great savings and jaw-dropping deals are available from a variety of local businesses. Check in with your favorite stores to see whether they’ll be offering their deals early, or whether they’ll be offering payment over the phone or online.

On December 4, ignite your Christmas cheer with a gorgeous tree-lighting ceremony—and the opening of “Santa’s Village”—in Legion Park. Visitors will also enjoy live Christmas music at the event.

Sikeston’s annual “Dashing Through Downtown” parade of lights takes place on December 5. This event grows bigger and more exciting every year as downtown businesses kick their Christmas spirit up a notch in a competition for the best lights and costumes. If you’re a fan of old-fashioned holiday parades, this is the perfect gathering to attend.

Of course, COVID-19 precautions are being taken at these events; Sikeston wants to make sure everyone celebrates the season safely. Visitors will be asked to follow all social distancing guidelines, and masks will be encouraged for shoppers browsing in store. Hand sanitizer will be readily available.

During the most wonderful time of the year, Sikeston events make sure there’s plenty of holiday cheer to go around.
