Event Details

Allied Arts Council of St. Joseph, MO Inc., in partnership with the City of St.
Joseph and Buchanan County, will commemorate Missouri’s Bicentennial and
St. Joseph and Buchanan County’s unique contributions to the state with the St.
Joseph 2021 Festival: from steam to S.T.E.A.M
on August 20-21, 2021 at
Civic Center Park. The family friendly festival will showcase St. Joseph’s
contributions – past to present – in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and

October of 2018, Governor Parson signed Executive Order 18-07 creating the
Missouri Bicentennial Commission.  The
purpose of this Commission is to “aid the State Historical Society of Missouri
in its charge to plan for and implement the commemoration of the Missouri
bicentennial and to further state efforts to honor the State of Missouri and
its rich history and heritage on the occasion of its bicentennial, Missouri
2021 Bicentennial – Past. Present. Future
Cities throughout Missouri have been asked to participate by hosting events
to help expand the celebration.

Allied Arts Council and St. Joseph Convention and Visitors Bureau jumped on
board with the state effort by forming a planning committee to discuss St.
Joseph’s involvement.  The Allied Arts
Council formed a festival committee to create a family-friendly, interactive,
one-time festival allowing the community to explore St. Joseph from a frontier
town to City of lnnovation. 

Festival features will
include the Musical History Tour
, a unique experience created specifically
to commemorate Missouri’s bicentennial, offered exclusively at the “St. Joseph:
from steam to STEAM” event. The Musical History Tour will take audiences on a
journey through the past, present and future of music

St. Joseph Chautauqua will enlighten
and educate the audience with little known historical aspects of the history of
St. Joseph and the northwest Missouri region. The stage will tell the stories
of the famous, the infamous, and the unknown and will celebrate the diversity
of St. Joseph in race, culture and religion.


Living History presented by the St. Joseph Historical Society,


S.T.E.A.M. Adults and children alike will have the opportunity to
participate in S.T.E.A.M. activities. From chalk art to robot races there is
something for everyone.


Celebrate Culture A celebration isn’t complete without the people that live,
work and play in St. Joseph. The festival will celebrate our rich heritage and
diversity and ask people from diverse cultures to be a part of the festival.


Innovation Zone- From meatpacking, to scientific discoveries, St. Joseph
businesses have been on the frontier of discovery for generations. Businesses are
invited to share their past successes, display their present accomplishments
and give us a preview of future endeavors.
