April 8, 1969
The Kansas City Royals play their first game ever, beating the Minnesota Twins 4-3 in 12 innings. Kansas City had been left without a team for two years after Charles O. Finley took the Athletics to Oakland in 1967, so it was a time of spring renewal as the city had a team to root for again. The Royals played in the old Municipal Stadium until Royals Stadium was ready in 1973.
