Are you looking for a venue to sell your products to Missourians? Join us at the Best of Missouri Life Market Fair! Our Best of Missouri Life advertisers will have the chance to sell their products at the Best of Missouri Life Market Fair at Powell Gardens on April 27-April 28, 2019.

Beautiful Powell Gardens attracts hundreds of thousands of people each year. Your booth will be either inside the main visitor center or under an awning. Register now to reserve yours.

Who is eligible to host a booth? All of Missouri’s artists, makers, and innovators are welcome to apply. Applications will be juried by Missouri Life staff, as we have a limited number of booths! This includes artists, artisans, fine crafts, food and beverage vendors, authors, etc.

When is the event? April 27-28th, 2019, from 10am-4pm both days.

Where is the event? The event will be held at Powell Gardens, Kansas City’s Botanical Garden. The gardens are between Lee’s Summit and Warrensburg on Hwy 50, about 20 minutes from the eastern metropolitan area of Kansas City. 1609 N.W. U.S. Highway 50 | Kingsville, MO 64061 | 816-697-2600

When can I set up my booth? On Friday, April 26, from 4-8pm and on Saturday from 6-9am.

Will there be someone to help me set up? Not at this time, although Missouri Life is reaching out to local Kingsville clubs such as 4-H or FFA to see if we could procure assistance.

Will there be someone to watch my booth if I need a break? Yes, Powell Gardens and Missouri Life will have a limited number of volunteers that can watch your booth for a short time.

What are the costs? The cost of a booth is $200, due upon signup. Electricity for your booth can be purchased for $20, and a table and two chairs can also be purchased for $20, also due upon signup. Additional costs may apply for vendors requiring license, see below.

What if I need to cancel? Refunds minus a $50 cancellation fee will be given if received by March 15 . No refunds after March 15 . A full refund will be made if for any reason your registration is not accepted.

Is there a notification date when we will be notified if we are accepted or not? Yes, you will be notified within two weeks of your registration.

What do I need to sell alcohol? You will need a “Retail by Drink” license and a caterer’s license. In order to procure a caterer’s license, you must receive a letter of permission from Powell Gardens, which will be provided to you by February 1, 2018. The caterer’s license costs $20 and will cover both days of the event. Processing the caterer’s license takes 2-3 weeks so it is recommended that vendors submit forms by mid- to late-February.

Are food vendors and artists to be intermingled? Yes, but the food vendors (with the exception of a few food trucks) will be food samplers.

What is the booth size? Booths are 10’ x 10’ and only one vendor is allowed per booth. Outdoor booths are under a roof eave overhang (approximately 5-feet deep).

If I request an inside location, does that guarantee I will receive it? No, this will be first-come, first-served, and there are only about 30 indoor spots.

Will there be pipe and drape set up for the inside booths? No pipe and drape.

Is there wifi? No, Powell Gardens does not provide wifi. You will need to use your own data and equipment if you are taking credit card payments.

Will I have to charge sales tax? Yes, sales tax is 6.48% and forms will be provided at check-in.

Will this show be juried? Yes, Missouri Life will provide jurors.

Are there going to be awards – monetary or otherwise? No, but we will have a panel name a “Best of Show” vendor.

What is the expected attendance? No numbers can be guaranteed, as this is a first-time event, however Powell Gardens reports average attendance this weekend is usually 500-1,000 people. With the promotion we’re doing, we hope to draw an additional 1,000-2,000 people.

How will the event be promoted? Both Missouri Life and Powell Gardens are promoting this event via a variety of media. The event is being advertised in four issues of Missouri Life magazine, and each issue reaches 139,000 people. Each vendor will also be featured in a Facebook post on Missouri Life’s page, which reaches an average of 50,000 per week. The event is promoted on Powell Gardens and Missouri Life email newsletters and websites. Missouri Life will also be promoting via radio, television, and other media in the Kansas City area.

Are meals and lodging provided? No, each vendor will need to secure their own meals and lodging. We have a list of lodging options at the end of this FAQ. And food will be available at food trucks or the Powell Gardens cafe.

Will there be security for the event? Yes, we will have one security guard. Indoor vendors will be in the locked building, and the security guard will patrol the outdoor booths, which line the exterior of the building, facing the gardens, a limited space. In addition, the facility itself is remote and with locked access after hours.

Will there be other attractions beside vendors to draw attendees? The small stage for entertainment is right in the midst of the booths. The gardens themselves, and the spring bulbs, would be the only other “draw” away from booths.

Who can I contact with questions about the event? Contact Kath Teoli at or 660-882-9898, ext. 204.

How do I register for the event? Register here.
