Confederate Brig. Gen. John S. Marmaduke wanted to strike Brig. Gen. John McNeil at Bloomfield, Missouri, on this date in 1863. McNeil retreated and Marmaduke followed.  The next day, Marmaduke learned that McNeil was near Cape Girardeau.
