The Missouri Intelligencer and Boonslick Advertiser Launch: April 23, 1819

On this date the newspaper, Missouri Intelligencer and Boonslick Advertiser became the first to be printed west of St. Louis. This was important because of the town's (Franklin's) place near the head of the Santa Fe Trail.


February 18, 1859

The city of Pacific is incorporated after changing its name from Franklin. With two towns in the state called Franklin, there were issues with mail and train service, as both towns were right along the rails.


May 28, 1819

The first steamboat on the Missouri River arrived at Franklin. Most riverboats could not traverse the Missouri because of the strong current and the extreme number of submerged snags.
