February 22 and 23 at 2 PM, the St. Louis City Museum is presenting Unbound!: a Circus Harmony show.
Circus Harmony is an internationally known and well-loved social circus school, found in the City Museum in St. Louis. While they have performed before, they have recently announced their annual full-length show, which will feature child acrobats and circus acts performing their show, based on fairy tale stories and characters.
The mission of the organization, as stated in their mission statement, is to “use circus arts to motivate social change.” The school desires to inspire and unite individuals from differing communities, backgrounds, and experiences to spark social change throughout the St. Louis area and beyond. “Our programs teach valuable life skills like perseverance, focus, and teamwork. Learning circus with others teaches trust, responsibility and cooperation. Teaching children from different neighborhoods how to stand on each other’s shoulders may seem like a strange way to take this path. But it’s the technique we use!”
Jessica Hentoff, Circus Harmony Founder and Artistic Executive Director, says that “Circus is where people really do have super powers! They defy gravity. They fly through the air. They control objects. They talk to animals. Circus is what everybody wants to be!”
The circus performance is directed by Evan Tomlinson Weintraub, whose other works have included Cirque du Soleil and Seven Fingers.
The Unbound! show welcomes and encourages all ages. Tickets are $20 to attend, which also include admission to the St. Louis City Museum.
