A Festive, Ceramic Ornament Painting Workshop

by Sydney Jones

Looking for an event to usher you into the Christmas spirit? This ceramic ornament painting workshop might be just the ticket!

Taylor Farm on FF, in Mexico, Missouri focuses most of its time towards selling produce at the local farmers market. But this year, when the the farmer’s market season came to a close, Yvonne Taylor, owner of Taylor Farm on FF, decided on another venture: opening a Holiday Market featuring local artisans. “We have about 10 local crafters and artists selling their goodies in our Holiday Market,” says Yvonne, “and one of the vendors in our Holiday Market is Dana Hartgrove”.

As Yvonne was looking for additional ways to spread Christmas cheer, she decided to partner up with local artist, Dana Hartgrove, and local Centralia restaurant, Los Perez Mexican Restaurant, to create a fun, family-oriented ceramic workshop event.

“I thought, Wouldn’t it be fun to combine making an ornament for the kids, a ceramic vase for the ladies, and also have Margaritas and Mexican food while we paint? (And the kids can also have some Mexican food and and refreshments while they paint.),” Yvonne says. “We posed the idea to the owners, and they were like, ‘Yeah, go ahead! Go for it. We’ll open the doors and you can host it in here.’ “

With the event space and the artist secured, Yvonne began finalizing the event details, and Dana began crafting—forming each of the ceramic vases and ornaments for the event by hand. Each piece is originally made and one-of-a-kind.

The Ceramic Ornament Painting Workshop event is Saturday, November 23rd from 11AM–1PM at Los Perez Mexican Restaurant in downtown Centralia. The price is $50 per adult, or $40 per child, which includes a drink, appetizers, and all materials for painting your ceramic piece(s).
