A Purr-fect Time at the Cat Cafe

by Sydney Jones

The history

Bertha’s Beans Cat Café in Columbia is not only a fun place to meet with friends, but is also a business collaboration with local pet store Lizzi and Rocco’s and Columbia’s Second Chance pet rescue center. “We’re essentially a large-scale foster home, creating a laid back, welcoming environment where you can hang out with our kitties to find your next family member. With the exception of our two permanent residents, every adorable feline you meet in our cafe is available for adoption through Second Chance,” says Bertha’s Beans’ website. “If you fall in love with one of our cafe cats, simply apply through the rescue’s website and go through their approval process.”

The cat cafe has all the luxuries of a typical cafe including pastries, hand-crafted coffees, and specialty drinks, while also offering kitty cuddles. Visitors can purchase a slot of time to enjoy a sipping a drink while in the company of some very cute cats. Bertha’s Beans works to help shelter cats find loving families while provide them with a cozy, clean, and safe living space to be well socialized.

The event

This Friday, March 28 from 2–3 PM, the cat cafe is hosting a “Spring Break Kit-Tea Party.” At the event, attendees can enjoy tea, snacks, and time with the cafe’s cats. Visitors are encouraged to wear their finest dress for a chance to win the Dress-Up Contest! Tickets are $18 a piece and include refreshments and cat cuddles. Those attending who are under the age of 16 must have a parent or guardian attend the event alongside them.
