Check Inn Time

The Main Street Inn in Parkville offers a historic retreat and a flavorful breakfast.

The French press coffee and homemade sweet bread served to your room at 7:30 am is as memorable as the Main Street Inn itself. This bed-and-breakfast in historic downtown Parkville near the Missouri River blends modern and antique design in a historic 1885 house.

Kathy and Jason Ayers worked as architects before opening the inn in 2013. Using their background in design, they have created an inviting, warm space through the use of exposed brick, intricate antique wood furniture, two fireside terraces with custom-built fire tables, and glowing stained glass. Guests can also soak in jacuzzi tubs and cozy up in queen-sized beds.

While many guests visit to escape bustling Kansas City, guests have arrived from over 40 states and 15 countries.

“It’s great to meet all these people,” Kathy says. “It’s not like a restaurant. Folks don’t come every week or month. They come back once a year to celebrate. They come for their wedding night, then their first anniversary, then the next year, they’re saying, ‘We’re having a baby!’ I’m so excited to be a part of their story.”

• Main Street Inn in downtown Parkville is in this beautifully restored 1885 home. Proprietors Kathy and Jason Ayers designed every detail, and Kathy decorates each of the three suites for Christmas.

As architects, Kathy and Jason know design is in the details. “We approach everything that we do through this design filter, if you will,” Kathy says.

The carefully designed breakfast experience begins with the coffee and sweet bread delivered to the room, followed by fruit and a hot breakfast entree in the dining room at 8:30. During the Christmas season, options include baked eggs Benedict and smashed potatoes, eggnog-baked french toast with cranberry-maple compote, and gingerbread with sweet cream cheese spread.

“We have designed the entire experience from when you find us to when you leave,” Kathy says.
