The Hermann Wurst Haus in Hermann, Missouri has been a staple in the community for years. Now, allowing their delicious recipes to be shared, the Wurst Haus is offering sausage making classes where attendees can learn the German tradition of sausage making. The classes are hands-on, and involve the instruction of three-time Hall of Fame Wurstmeister, Mike Sloan. Said to be both informative and entertaining, visitors can expect to have the best wurst class possible.
Those attending the event can expect to be taught:
- Cold smoke vs. hot smoke
- Natural fermentation vs. artificial fermentation
- Natural casings vs. collagen casings
- And more!
This class is a great option for those who are struggling to find a good process to make sausage on their own, or for people who are beginners and have never made sausage before! Chef Sloan is excited to help others learn. “Many of you only make sausage once or twice a year, and if it turns out well, that’s great! … but if not, then you need to change something. You should only change one thing at a time, or you won’t know what change was made that helped you make the sausage you like. So, you might make some undesirable sausage, or you might say ‘to heck with it!’ over the course of 4-5 years,” says Chef Sloan on the Hermann Haus event site. “By taking my classes, you will go from zero to hero!”
Those wanting to attend the class must make reservations ahead of time. The class will run from 5 PM–7 PM February 21. The cost for an event ticket is $125 and includes:
- A wurst meal with one free drink
- A class-personalized Hermann Wurst Haus washable apron
- A Wurst Haus goody-bag
- 10% off in-store purchases made that day (excludes liquor and any in-store specials)
- Roughly 2-3 pounds of sausage (made in class)
