The Ozarks’ Coin Club is hosting a priceless coin and stamp show at the Relics Event Center in Springfield. The show will be from noon to 6 p.m. on October 25 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 26.
Admission and parking are free, but visitors will be able to buy and sell coins, currency, and stamps at the show. There will be silver coins, bullion coins, US and foreign currency, and more for sale. It will have a couple of dealers with ancient coins for sale as well. The event will have 29 dealers from as far away as South Dakota and Wyoming.
“This is an interactive opportunity for people who like coins, currency, and stamps to come together and connect with others who have the same interests,” says Dylan Emery, the show bourse for the event. “Attendees can bring parts of their own collection to sell, plus they can add to their collection at the same time.”
The show has been running since 1965, and is one of the few two-day shows left in Southwest Missouri, Dylan says. “The biggest thing that makes this show different is our efforts to promote the hobby to children,” Dylan says.
During the event, children will have the opportunity to win fantasy currency, or fake currency resembling real currency, with Pokemon and My Little Pony characters on them. The event will have a set of six My Little Pony and two sets of six Pokemon gold-plated currency that it will give away to three children between the ages of 5 and 18. The drawing will be on Sunday at the end of the show. The winner will not need to be present to win the fantasy currency.
“One year, we had a dealer’s granddaughter win one of our door prizes; she was about 5 or 6,” Dylan says. “The excitement on that child’s face was uplifting and reminded me why we do what we do. It reminded me why we work to put this show on each year. Bringing that excitement to a child, especially if we can keep that excitement going, is how our hobby grows.”
