Rooftop Cabaret, Backyard Movies, a True Crime Bar, and more in Kansas City

The rooftop deck of the Westin Kansas City hotel overlooks KC’s skyline and offers a one-of-a-kind open air entertainment venue. Through May 27, the Quixotic performance art collective will present a high-energy show combining music, dance, and acrobatics. The socially distanced evenings will also feature specialty cocktails.

A sold-out May 1 screening of “Jurassic Park” will kick off this outdoor movie series, a collaboration between Screenland Armour and Boulevard Brewing Co. Throughout the summer, cinema fans will have a chance to take in a diverse lineup of movies under the stars, such as “Grease,” “Back to the Future,” “The Goonies,” “10 Things I Hate About You,” “Beetlejuice,” and “La La Land.” Bring your own chair to set up in the theatre’s back parking lot. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.

Opening May 1, Alibi will serve as a gathering place for those intrigued by stories of true crime. This pop-up bar, located in the Westport neighborhood, will feature several themed cocktails, such as The Juice (three different rums mixed with cranberry and orange juices) and The Stakeout (specialty cold brew, French Vanilla Cîroc, Kahlua, and a donut finish), as well as a few beer and wine options. The space will be decked out in original work by artist Kayley Curiel and other design elements related to infamous crimes and criminals, conspiracy theories, and historical moments in criminal investigation. In addition, trivia and table games will keep armchair detectives entertained. Newhouse, a local domestic violence shelter, will receive a percentage of Alibi’s proceeds and guests will also be encouraged to donate to the organization.
