Jessica Shaw began her adventure with coffee shop and bakery, Walnut & Twine, in 2021. When the local C & S Grocery Store in Harrisburg closed down, Jessica and the rest of the Harrisburg community were devastated. The C & S building was more than a grocery store. To many, it was the heart of the small town. Scared of what the historic building might become, and wanting to maintain its history and beauty, Jessica took on a new adventure—opening Walnut & Twine. The business is now nestled in a historic building in downtown Harrisburg where the staff sell delicious pastries and house-roasted coffee each day.
During the month of December, Walnut & Twine is hosting a Christmas pop-up. “It’s kind of a mini mercantile,” says Jessica, owner of Walnut & Twine. “There’s coffees, teas, and jams. We have candles and ceramic mugs made by a local potter. It’s a pop-up just for the holidays where you can find different cute little gifts.”
Many of the gifts that Jessica is offering are made locally right here in Missouri. “We sell our locally roasted coffee and our jams and jellies are from a small farm right outside of Independence Missouri,” says Jessica. The store also sells card sets made by a local artist, and earrings from multiple different local creators. While there are local creations, there is also a selection of ethically sourced gift options from other places around the United States.
The pop-up is running each Saturday for the entire month of December: December 7th, 14th, and 21st. Visitors can come shop the mercantile from 9 AM–3 PM and grab a delicious drink and pastry from 8 AM– 3PM on those dates as well.
