September 6 from 8 AM–2 PM, Northside Community Housing, Inc. is hosting The Northside Trap Run, an annual 5K and festival in St. Louis.
Unlike other 5K events, this one is special, as it is St. Louis’ first and only hip-hop 5K and festival. The festival event includes over twelve DJs spinning fantastic music, booths with local vendors, raffles, and giveaways. This year, they are also adding food, drinks, music, games, yoga, community mural painting, storytelling pop ups, and line dancing! The festival is free to attend.

The event website notes that this event is “aimed at empowering North St. Louis neighborhoods and unifying grassroots, civic, educational, commercial and residential efforts to bridge the city’s north-south divide.” The name of the event, the Trap Run, comes from the host’s desire to “celebrate the beauty that perseveres through struggle.” This name is an homage to hip hop and trap music. “Just as hip hop and trap music transcended hardship, our run highlights beauty in communities of St. Louis that too many ignore.”
The 5K start and finish line is located at the intersection of N. Sarah and Dr. MLK Drive. To participate in the 5K, tickets are $40 per runner, and $15 for ages 1–12.
