Joplin Firefighter Dies After House Fire: December 28, 1939
Frank Simmons of the Joplin Fire Department becomes the third firefighter at the time to die in the line of duty in the department’s history. He succumbed to a heart attack after returning from a house fire on North Harlem, according to a history on the city’s website.
