Death of Arthur Bryant
On December 28, 1982, Arthur Bryant died at the age of 80, working at the restaurant he made famous until the end. Bryant wasn’t from Kansas City, but he certainly helped make Kansas City barbecue famous. Bryant opened his restaurant at 18th and Brooklyn, near where the Kansas City Blues, Athletics, and Chiefs once played their games. That location, and his famous ribs recipe, made him a legend. Even though Bryant is gone, the legacy lives on as Kansas City is still one of the top-ranked cities in the country when it comes to barbecue.
