On February 8, the event will have independent judges, who are Certified Welding Instructors, give 20 participants awards for welding. Over $250,000 will be awarded and every participant gets a $1,000 scholarship. Participants have to be a high school senior.

“This event was started to showcase high school seniors welding abilities and enable them to compete for scholarships and prizes,” says Rob Knoll, president of the American Welding Academy. “This event will also enable everyone to see our school and talk with staff about attending American Welding Academy along with housing and funding opportunities.”

Registration ends January 24. The fee for registration is $25, which will include a competition T-shirt. Doors open at 7 AM, and the competition starts at 8 AM.

The event will have vendors and employers from across the country, along with food and beverages supplied by local unions. There will be raffles and giveaways throughout the day.

They expect to have 200 competitors this year.
