The Green Switch Celebration is held in Rock Port: April 18, 2008

by Missouri Life

The winds of change came to the small town of Rock Port in Atchison County on this day in 2008. The tiny town on the windswept plains of northwest Missouri became the first community in the entire country to generate a full 100% of its electricity from wind power.

The citizens in the town of nearly 1400 celebrated this green switch, proud of the fact that their town’s four turbines generate twice as much power as Rock Port needs.
