Missouri History Today June 7, 2011: Columbia ice cream shop Sparky’s told to stop making cicada treat.

by Missouri Life

After only 6 days, Sparky’s Ice Cream in Columbia was told to cease making ice cream made with chopped cicadas.

The quirky ice cream shop is known for making wacky flavors. Besides cicada, they have made crab rangoon, dill pickle, and other interesting varieties. Maybe when the cicadas come back Sparky’s will again offer ice cream with those crispy critters—if they “get the bugs worked out.”
