Mound City makes the front page of The St. Joseph Observer and is noted for its impressive reputation as a classy and modern place. “Mound City, that beautiful little gem of a municipality up in Holt County, noted for its progress, push and enterprise, its sterling business men, fine streets and pretty women, stands way up at the head of the best towns in all Northwest Missouri, the article begins.” The author attributes its success to widespread farming and “ample railroad facilities.”
