Preparing Your Home for Fall and Allergy Season

by Missouri Life

Fall will be here before we know it, and this is the time to start getting your home prepped for the seasonal weather change. Although it may seem early (and too hot) to think about fall and winter, it’s never too early to start HVAC prep for the upcoming season. Getting ahead of your fall maintenance can help ensure you and your family are going to be comfortable this fall and help avoid a mid-winter breakdown.

Brought to you in partnership with Trane Residential.

Trane experts can help you check off tasks on your fall maintenance checklist!
  1. Ensure your system is working properly: Like a car, your HVAC system should warm up before shifting it into full heating gear. To ensure it performs properly during the critical time in need, you want to give it a head start so you can determine if there are any maintenance or performance issues. For peace of mind, schedule a preventative HVAC fall maintenance checkup with your local Trane Comfort Specialist before the cooler temperatures arrive.
  2. Set your thermostat correctly: The ideal temperature to set in the fall is between 68 – 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Keeping the air inside your home closer the temperature outside will prevent your HVAC system from overworking. Setting it and forgetting it with a smart thermostat is a no-brainer that can help reduce energy expenses this fall and year-round. By connecting your HVAC system to the internet, smart thermostats allow you to control your home temperature remotely. Controlled easily by your phone, the smart thermostat allows you to turn off your system when you are not home, reducing energy use.
  3. Check Your Home’s Insulation & Seals: If your attic isn’t properly insulated, your HVAC system must work harder to keep your home at a consistent, comfortable temperature. The more it works, the more it costs you. It’s best practice to inspect the insulation.
  4. Change Your Air Filters Frequently: A good rule of thumb is to change your filter at least once every season. With your HVAC tune-up, it is best to clean or change your filters once every 30-90 days. Regular cleaning/changing of your filter will ensure the best filtration, increase the life of your machine, and guarantee you are caring for your system and air quality.
  5. Fighting Allergies, Asthma and the Flu: If your household is asthma or allergy-prone, it might be worth investing in a more premium air filter, like Trane’s CleanEffects® Whole Home Air Cleaner, as it effectively reduces the presence of dust, pollen, pet hair and dander, lint, and more. Trane’s CleanEffects is certified asthma & allergy friendly® by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, which is a major plus for parents looking for reassurance when it comes to their home’s indoor air quality. The certification is awarded only to those products that are scientifically proven to reduce exposure to asthma and allergy triggers.
Your local Trane Comfort Specialist works with you to identify the best ways to reduce allergens, optimize the efficiency of your HVAC system, and keep your home comfortable.
