With a beautiful view of Missouri’s capitol building, Missouri River Relief will host a Missouri River Cleanup in Jefferson City on Saturday, October 15!
This article is presented in partnership with Missouri River Relief.
Join hundreds of like-minded individuals working to make a positive difference on the river, and in their community. Enjoy getting to spend some time exploring the longest river in North America, the Missouri River.
Space is limited, so make sure to pre-register to receive detailed information about the event, and how to get to the beautiful riverfront at Wilson’s Serenity Point at the Noren Access. If volunteer slots appear full, please reach out to Alyssa at [email protected] to be added to our waiting list!
Volunteers will check in at 9 a.m. at the riverfront for a brief orientation and safety talk before getting fitted for life jackets and boarding boats. Dress in layers for changing weather conditions, and prepare to help clean up the river rain or shine! Volunteers will ride a shuttle to pre-scouted cleanup locations to clean up the banks of the river for 1-2 hours before heading back for lunch.
Volunteers receive a free Big Muddy boat ride, a cool t-shirt, trash bags, gloves, life jackets, and a reusable water bottle. Lunch will be provided and waiting for you when you get back to the boat ramp between 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Following lunch is a fun trash contest, where you can compete for prizes for the best trash finds! Stick around for the trash sort in the afternoon, where we will be joining forces with our friends at the Missouri River Bird Observatory to audit the different brands of plastic trash we are finding to submit data in the global campaign to identify and hold companies accountable for plastic pollution happening worldwide.
A Big Muddy thanks to our event sponsors who make this event possible! Veterans United Foundation, Athletic Brewing Company, Missouri American Water, Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s Outdoor Fund, Mid-Missouri Solid Waste Management District, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Missouri Department of Conservation, Diggit Graphics, Missouri Stream Teams, JC Parks, and Race to the Dome!
