The last Corvette rolls off the production line in St. Louis. Corvettes and St. Louis were a marriage that lasted nearly 30 years. The excitement began in 1953 when the Post-Dispatch reported that General Motors was finalizing plans to build a “plastic car” at a plant in the city. For the next 27 years, America’s favorite sports cars were built at that plant until the final, pearl-white, 1981 Corvette rolled out the doors.
