Festival of Butterflies – Powell Gardens – 1609 N.W. U.S. Highway 50 – Kingsville
Tropical butterflies and moths from around the globe are being celebrated now through Aug. 8 at this 24th annual event. The attractions and activities are abundant, including a replica of the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in Michoacán, Mexico, a caterpillar petting zoo, a native butterfly habitat, an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast bar, and a playground with giant milkweed and honeycomb climbers. Advanced tickets are encouraged.
Parkville Days – 100 Main Street, Parkville
The Main Street Parkville Association will host Parkville Days Aug. 20-22. The three-day downtown festival is packed with fun from arts and crafts, food, and a carnival to live music, end of summer sidewalk sales, a beer garden, a parade, and more. Admission is free.
Planet Comicon Kansas City – Bartle Hall – 301 W. 13th Street, KC
Comic book and pop culture fans will unite Aug. 20-22 in downtown KC. Planet Comicon Kansas City is the biggest convention of its kind in the Midwest. Celebrities, creators, and voice actors from popular movies and TV shows like Black Panther, Stranger Things, Supernatural, Star Trek, Arrow, Star Wars, and more will be available for meet and greets, autographs, and photo-ops. The event will also include exhibitors, cosplay activities, workshops, demos, tabletop gaming, and performances.
