Boo-gy to downtown Hannibal to have a scarily good time throughout the Halloween season.
The Living Dead Windows returns to Hannibal for the Halloween season from 5 to 8 p.m., on October 26. The free event will be on Main and North Street downtown and will host spooky scenes behind the windows of businesses and boutiques.
The Windows event will feature live people surrounded by a Halloween setup. The event is considered family-friendly since nothing will jump out at visitors and the spooky atmosphere will be on the low end. About a dozen businesses will be participating, according to Rickelle Daack, Historic Hannibal Marketing Council event manager.
During the event, there will also be the Hannibal Jaycees’ Halloween Parade from 6 to 8 p.m. It will run down Broadway and Main Street. It will feature people dressed in costumes and there will be Halloween candy galore.
Many of the shopping businesses will be open for people to look around while interacting with the live windows and during the parade. Main Street will shut down starting at 3 p.m. to accommodate the events.
“It’s really just for the spirit of Halloween and to keep our downtown merchants involved in the community,” Rickelle says. “We also have our trunk-or-treat down on Main Street, so it’s a good lead-up to that.”
Hannibal’s Main and North Street will also host the Main Street Trick or Treat event from 5 to 8 p.m. on October 31. “It’s really just a safe place for all of the community children if they don’t have somewhere to trick or treat, like in your neighborhood then we have Main Street,” Rickelle says. “So we just have a lot of passion for Halloween and the community that comes alive around that kind of season.”
Oh, and don’t forget to wear your Halloween costumes for each frighteningly fun event!
In the same place as the Halloween extravaganzas, Hannibal will have a Historic Hannibal’s Downtown Living Windows event on December 12. It will feature holiday-themed living windows.
