Brand-new paddlers, as well as seasoned veterans, will be found on the Missouri River Race to the Dome, on October 1. Proceeds from the race benefit the nonprofit Missouri River Relief and its efforts to connect people to the Missouri River through on-the-river clean-ups, education, and recreation. So many people are on the river that it’s a good place for new kayakers and canoeists to experience the river’s beauty. You may even see some stand-up paddlers.

Two races offer different mileage: 15.8 miles from Hartsburg or 27.6 from Providence access at Columbia to Jefferson City. Veterans encourage newer paddlers or racers to enter the shorter race. And, you don’t really have to race! You can just paddle and enjoy the fun alongside serious racers, who will quickly leave you behind. As of today, there are 193 paddlers and 130 watercrafts registered.

No alcohol is permitted in the race, and lifejackets are required.
