Ten by Three—local St. Louis nonprofit—is hosting a warehouse sale for their makers November 9 through November 10 from 9 AM to 2 PM. Though there will be ornate, handmade items at discounted prices, the mission behind the sale is even better than the deals.
Ten by Three lives by their Prosperity Wages® model, which makes their nonprofit unique. Artisans work in tandem with Ten by Three and are paid two and a half times higher than fair trade standards, ensuring that they can make a sustainable income from selling their work. Even more than purchasing items for a fair price and selling them for profit, the Ten by Three organization helps to turn the money made from the crafts into business ventures. Each artisan is shepherded into building their own business, aided by the help of employees at Ten by Three.
After purchasing a product, buyers can look at its tag for a story code and type it in on the Ten by Three website. Searching the code provides information like the artisan’s name, their country, and their story—connecting buyers to makers around the world.
“We are in seven countries around the world, including Africa, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Madagascar, Togo, and India,” says Felicia, employee at Ten by Three. Felicia says that all products found on their website will be at the Warehouse Sale at a discounted rate under $20. The Warehouse Sale was created specifically to make profit from products that aren’t perfect. “It’s all still good product. There’s just some sort of issue where it didn’t hit our substandard product, 100% quality to be sold at full price,” Felicia says. “There’s going to be a little bit of everything; baskets, storage bins, bags, things like that, anything that you see on our website, there’s going to be at least a couple of each item. We have over 3,000 items in the sale, and nothing is over $20.”
