Let the Olympic Games begin!
On August 29, 1904, the Olympics Games officially begin in St. Louis. The city had the world’s attention during the summer of 1904 as it hosted not only the World’s Fair but also the Games of the III Olympiad on the campus of Washington University. These were the first Olympics where the gold, silver, and bronze medal format was used. It was also the first Olympic Games to take place outside of Europe.
