President William Howard Taft didn’t want to offend either set of St. Louis baseball fans so, on this day, he covered all his bases, attending part of the Cardinals game at Robison Field – even throwing out the first pitch and watching the Cards take a commanding lead – then scooting over to Sportsman’s Park for the rest of the Browns game.
The Cards trounced the Reds, and Taft stayed till the last out of the AL matchup with the Indians, which was called for darkness and ended in a 3-3 tie after 14 innings of play.
