Like the title of Missouri native Tennessee WIlliams’ famous work, streetcars became objects of desire after their 2016 debut in Kansas City.
Approved by voters in 2012, when KC was in search of ways to update its transit system and make downtown more accessible without cars, the streetcars were an almost instant success.
They run between River Market and Union Station, with downtown Kansas City stops in between. After just three years, they were carrying nearly 6,500 riders a day.
