Margaret B. Kelly was appointed State Auditor on this date in 1984 by Gov. Christopher “Kit” Bond.
She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State) University. She received a C.P.A. certificate in 1982.
Before her inauguration as State Auditor, Kelly served as Cole County Auditor. She won reelection as state auditor several times, finally retiring from the role at the end of her last term in 1999.
