Following the tragic death May 25, 2020, of George Floyd, protestors marching through a gated community in the Central West End of St. Louis in June of 2020 were met by homeowners Mark and Patricia McCloskey, who came out of their home with guns drawn.
The couple told the protestors to get off the land. The incident led to charges against the couple, lawsuits over the picture, and St. Louis in the national spotlight over debates about gun rights and private property.
The incident took on another life after the couple famously appeared at the Republican National Convention after the story got the attention of Donald Trump.
