A winter storm knocks out power to 130,000 residents in the Kansas City area, causes $1.5 million in damage and dumps up to 9” of snow in places. A report from University of Missouri Extension blames heavy, wet precipitation and plenty of trees with intact leaves for much of the damage. This chart from the National Weather Service indicates that unusually cold temperatures in the atmosphere helped feed the storm.
