In partnership with Quixotic, an art collective that fuses dance, multi-media technology, and live music, Powell Gardens presents the Dark Forest. As nightfall sweeps solemnly across our Missouri sky, journey through enthralling live performances, captivating music, and creative technology to see eccentric and ethereal creatures of the universe. Powell Gardens is a botanical garden at Kingsville, about 20 minutes east of Lee’s Summit or 40 minutes east of downtown Kansas City.

While you’re at Powell Gardens, check out Mystic Faire, an entertaining market of food, specialty drinks, and other treasures; the Garden Galleries, which feature a spooky display of heirloom garden crops, such as bloody butcher field corn, and the Apple Court, which features poisonous plants surrounding a giant green poison apple, perfect for a selfie.

You’ll find food at the Missouri Barn, Cabinet of Curiosities, and Mystic Faire, all offering hot food, coffee, cider, signature cocktails, and local brews. You can find snacks at the Silo Bar + Bites, bakery items and gifts at the Cabinet of Coffee & Curiosities, and drinks at the Mystic Lake Concession Stand, halfway through the Dark Forest.

The Dark Forest begins at 7 p.m. with the final time slot at 10 p.m., ending at 11 p.m., October 21–23 and October 27–30. Powell Gardens opens at 5 p.m. Tickets are $35 and parking is $10. Or purchase a Camp 49 plus Dark Forest Flex Pass, (for 21 and older) for an after-party with lighting, visuals, DJ music, and a dance floor, as well as a themed cocktail menu for $48.
