A giant step forward in the baking industry put Missouri on the culinary map, as the Chillicothe Baking Company sold sliced bread for the very first time. The bakery didn’t invent the machine but was the first to sell bread that was sliced by the machine. Further research proved it to be the first instance of sliced bread being sold to the masses. The State of Missouri now honors Sliced Bread Day every July 7.
