When neighbors suspected bootleggers were operating out of a garage apartment in Joplin, they called the authorities to look into it. Turns out there were no bootleggers –
just the infamous crime couple Bonnie and Clyde!
A gun battle erupted at their rented bungalow in Newton County, now E. 34th Street in Joplin, and two of the responding Joplin officers were killed.
