Missouri’s Oldest Continuous Newspaper Hits Stands With First Issue: August 3, 1839

The Missouri Whig and General Advertiser, the state’s oldest continuously published newspaper, hits newsstands in Palmyra on this date in 1839. The paper is now called the Palmyra Spectator.
