After a year and a half of construction, Boone Hospital in Columbia hosts its grand opening. The facility’s first patient arrived three days later, and it welcomed its first baby on Christmas Eve, according to a history on the hospital’s website. This photo shows a man carrying freshly baked bread in Columbia around November 1939, illustrating a slice of life from a community that benefited from the services of Boone Hospital.
