Kansas City continues its expansion by annexing the town of Westport. The community had been settled by founding father John McCoy at the intersection of today’s Westport Road and Pennsylvania Avenue. The area included a store for pioneers traveling the Santa Fe Trail and a landing for river boats, according to a history from The Kansas City Public Library. This illustration represents Westport Landing.
