George Wesley Somerville and his bride, Elsie Mae Smith, marry in the City of Princeton. Somerville and his family later moved to Chillicothe, where he founded the community’s Historical Society. In 1955, it became the Grand River Historical Society and Museum, which continues to welcome history buffs and other visitors, according to an online history from the University of Central Missouri. This 1900s postcard spotlights Chillicothe’s pride in its academic institutions, such as its Normal, Commercial, Shorthand and Telegraphy colleges.
