Missouri becomes state No. 37 to ratify the Eighteenth Amendment, which prohibited manufacturing, distribution and sale of alcohol. The amendment went into effect the following year, according to a Missouri Secretary of State history. This 1924 photo shows Sheriff John Grothe and Deputy James Morton alongside items from a shuttered moonshine still in St. Charles.
