Brothers Harry and Jennings Young open fire on law enforcement officials at a farmhouse near Brookline southwest of Springfield. Six officers died attempting to arrest the brothers on suspicion of stealing cars, according to a Missouri Law Enforcement Memorial history. They also wanted Harry, a suspect in a Republic marshal’s death. The brothers committed suicide three days later in Texas after officers surrounded their location in a bed-and-breakfast bathroom. This photo shows the city of Republic, which Brookline consolidated with in 2005, according to a Wikipedia entry.
