The publication National Art Magazine features a series of photos from Missouri and Arkansas in its pages. The publisher noted that “the objective in this series is to represent as fully and beautifully as possible the splendid and imposing scenery of this continent, in connection with the homes of its people and those striking personal characteristics which distinguish the inhabitants of each particular section.” It’s unclear what imposing scenery the publishers had in mind. This 1940 photo features a couple who farmed in Missouri’s Ozarks.
