Missouri History Today October 1, 1826: Missouri Moves Capital To Jefferson City

On this date, the Missouri government permanently relocated from St. Charles to its Jefferson City headquarters, according to a history from the Missouri Secretary of State. The law identifying Jefferson City as the state seat for government had been signed into law back in 1821.
