A ceremony is held in Pleasant Hill to honor men discovered buried in a mass grave created during the Civil War era, according to a history on the city’s website. The grave dates to the time of Order No. 11, under which Southern sympathizers had to leave all or part of counties including Cass, Bates, Jackson, and Vernon. Meanwhile, federal towns and military posts housed loyalists to the Union.
