US astronaut Mike Hopkins, a Missouri native, headed for the International Space Station on this date aboard a Russian Soyuz space capsule. “Thx for sharing in this adventure,” he wrote on Twitter, according to an article from Space.com. He was born in Lebanon, Missouri, and grew up on a farm outside Richland.
