Missouri History Today September 29, 1989: Gussie Busch Leaves Legacy Of Cardinals Baseball

August A. “Gussie” Busch dies at age 90 on this date, according to a history from the Society for American Baseball Research. He became famous for convincing his company, Anheuser-Busch, to buy the St. Louis Cardinals in 1953. They began winning world championships in 1964.
