Missouri History Today September 30, 1970: Sniper Claims Trucker’s Life, Ignites 20 Tons Of Dynamite On I-44

Tragedy struck Springfield when a sniper angered by a union dispute shot a truck carrying roughly 20 tons of dynamite as it traveled along Interstate 44. The resulting explosion killed the driver and left a hole 50 feet wide.
